Centenary Year - 1909 -2009 |
|
You may be aware this is the Centenary Year of Chipperfield Village Hall. Funds were raised from January 1908 and building work commenced in April 1909 at a cost of £450. The builder was Mr. Burgin of Bovingdon and it was officially opened by the Bishop of St. Albans on 24th. July. We aim to celebrate the Centenary with an Exhibition in the Hall – “The Village throughout the Ages”, on 27th June, (11.00 -4.00pm) and 28th June, (2.00 – 5.00pm) offering a BBQ lunch on the Saturday and Teas on the Sunday. Mary Nobbs and her son Andrew have very kindly agreed to spearhead the research and lay on the exhibition on a similar theme to the one they presented in the 2000 Millennium Celebrations, which I chaired. There will also be a Centenary Variety Show at the Village Hall on the 17th and 18th October, under Peter Corbett’s direction. As you know, there have been various organisations within Chipperfield who have regularly used the village hall facilities over many years and I wanted to tell you of our plans for the Centenary. We would greatly appreciate any help you and your members can offer at these events, (please contact me or Peter Corbett). We would hope that you would also pen a note of congratulations to The Village Hall on this their Centenary Year in any forthcoming programmes, notices, or literature, before the event. While it is not our intention to make the celebration a fund raising exercise, costs will be incurred, so if any local village hall users would like to donate money or take a collection towards these costs, it would be much appreciated, but not obligatory.
Richard A. Edwards (Chairman, Village Hall).
